Brick
Brick is a thriller which was made in 2005, which was directed by Rian Johnson. It is a film about a young teenager who goes out to investigate the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend.
Editing
the first edit was a pan of the scenery. the edit for this was very fast and we couldn't really understand what we were seeing. then the camera was focusing on the boy which created effects it was like he was finally coming conscious. the editing in brick was very fast, the clips were 3-5 seconds long dramatically changing from one thing to another. this creates effect as the editing matches our thoughts as we are confused to what happened and are trying to get a glimpse of everything to understand. he looked upset as if he was upset and didn't know what to do. This matched with the editing as the editing was made to confuse us as it wasn't sticking to one thing just like how he must of felt. He didn't know what to do and his mind must have been rushing just like the short clips.

Mise- en- scene
The atmosphere is dark and gloomy, as if the film is warning us that it is going to be a dark, evil film. the area the opening scene was filmed in was damp, isolated and there was a stream. the scene looked empty as there wasn't many props around enhancing the fact that the place was isolated only involving two characters. we knew something was wrong even without the dead body as the place looked like there shouldn't be people there. when we had a close up of the two characters the boy was wearing glasses and casual clothes. he looked like he just came out of school, the girl was wearing heals and was wearing smart clothes which could indicate that she was older than him.
Camera
the camera involved a very fast pan of the scenery. we didn't see much as the editing was very fast and couldn't realise what was happening. then there was a long shot of the place the two characters where. this then dramatically changed shots to the first characters face. the camera was focusing on his face. the rest of the scene concluded with eye-line match as e had a close up of his face and then what he was looking at. at first we saw his face, then a close up of the girls shoes. then we went back to the close up of his face and then a close up of her head. then another close up of his face and then a close up of her hand. we didn't understand why those parts of the girls body was filmed however we noticed by this that she was dead.
Sound
there was no dialogue to the opening scene, we were confused to what was happening and had visually see what was happening to get an understanding of what was happening. there is unsettling music which confused us even more. it worried us as it was like a warning. it suited the atmosphere as it was dark music. the non diegetic music made us anxious as we didn't know what we were going to face and made it feel like we was in the film as we were feeling that same thing as the teenage boy.
