Thriller convention

Thriller Convention

Thriller. A popular genre in the film industry that includes many characteristics that exhilarate a broad audience. They create a primary mood, for example; fear or excitement.

Now every thriller has to have frequent action. Imagine thriller movie without the violence. Sounds absurd right? This is why thrillers use action quite frequently during the film to build tension and keep the audience hooked. This leads thrillers to be fast pacing. In moments where there is suspense thrillers add quick music and use fast changing camera shots. This is so that the audience are acknowledged that there could be something dangerous that is going to happen.

Thrillers use many devices such as suspense.  This is created to alarm the audience by making us think something is going to happen which often usually does not. Without this devise thrillers would be tedious. There are also red herrings, this is when in the film something is happening which the audience as well as the character has no knowledge of. as if we have been fooled or tricked. There are also cliff hangers which compliment thrillers as they cause more tension and suspense.

Thrillers include a resourceful hero who is clever. Usually he is an older
man who is accustomed to danger acquainted with a younger attractive woman. They work together against a villain. Now we all know a thriller wouldn't be interesting if the villain isn't intelligent and cunning. Therefore thrillers include a villain driven plot. This is when the villain creates obstacles for the hero to overcome so he isn't so easy to capture. Which is also why thrillers are in exotic places like foreign countries.
Sigourney Weaver

However sometimes a woman could be a hero or villain. For example Sigourney weaver, a talented female actress who played a part in a popular thriller film in 1979 called aliens. She played the main role of Ellen Ripley the hero of the film where she struggles to inform people that there is actual aliens living out of the world. through the movie she becomes the hero by fighting off the monsters. This shows us that woman can also be the heroes in thriller films.

Thrillers differs from mystery films majorly. Thrillers often overlap mystery stories. For example in mysteries the villain is found at the end however in comparison in thrillers there is more violence and dangers like terrorism, assassination and mass murders. finally in mysteries the climax of the film is when the mystery is solved. However in thrillers the climax is when the hero defeats the villain.

In conclusion thrillers are made to give an audience some excitement. Thrillers can be for many different types of people. for example there are; romantic thrillers, historical thrillers, medical thrillers, religious thrillers, action adventure thrillers, high-tech thrillers and many more. This makes thrillers available for all kinds of people, keeping them hooked while they watch their favourite genre of films.
