Thriller opening: Zodiac

Opening of thriller: Zodiac

Zodiac is a 2007 thriller directed by, David Fincher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81fwc8i704s

Editing
The first thing that shows up on the film is that the film is based on a true story. this scares us as we know it is a thriller and therefore something bad is going to happen that really did happen. the scene was edited to be calm and relaxing,  as if we were watching a romance film. however the fireworks could indicate that there will be bad things happening. the scenes at this stage become very fast and loud indicating something bad that is going to happen. Then when the man shoots both of them the editing cuts from the characters faces showing us the how the characters feel from both points of view.

Mise-en-scene
The girl looks young, she likes to take control as she wasn't to be the one driving when the boy asks if he can. this could be reassurance to her as she doesn't want to be found by her husband so she knows if she is driving she can drive away if he is around. The boy also looks young, he acts like he doesn't want to be told what to do as he asked again to drive however he listened to her. the beginning stars of romantic, it is deceiving us to think that this is a good calm film like romance films are. They drove to a quite deserted area.

They get his by fire works by the cars that past them. this scared them into believing that they were trying to kill them. Then see a wedding ring on her hand, telling is that she is married. another car drives up we think that this person could be the husband. it then drives off however comes back again confusing and worrying us with what is going to happen. the man kills them both and we can see the terror inside the girls eyes. the man looks relentless as after he shoots again to claim that he is not going to let her get away.

Camera
There is first a wide shot of the whole city with the fireworks. The camera tracks the car driving down the road, there then is a point of view shot when they have their conversation. We don't see them talking however the other persons reaction to what has been said. we have a close up of them both as they're talking in the car, this was done to emphasize their relationship.  When the car comes there are many point of view shots to show that they're worried and scared and a close up of their face when the car leaves as a sign of relief. Then when the car comes back and once again we experience what the characters a feeling with the point of view shots and the close ups which are making us feel more terrified.

Sound
There is romantic music which is diegetic as it is playing in her car radio, it contrasts with the fireworks as they are like gun fire shots however the romantic music is calming and relaxing. there are the sounds of the cars when they go past the restaurant which slowly fades away as they enter the deserted place. there is silence there nothing but the sound of the nature.  there was a lot of dialogue in the film which  gets us to understand the characters. we then here the diegetic sound of the car. This was like an alarm to us, as it is warning the characters and us of her husband coming as now we know she is married we don't want her to be caught. We then here the gun shots of the killing and we know who the man is. there is a laud music which exaggerates and embraces the gun shot noise after he kills them to show how ruthless he is.
