Thriller opening: No country for old men

No country for old men

No country for old men is a thriller directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, about Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.

Editing
The editing in the film was very fast paced. everything we watched in the opening thriller happened so fast and two people were killed in the first 2 minutes of the film. however the beginning of the film, which included the nature scenes had a slow paced scenes. when the killing was happening the film became intense again.

Mise- en- scene
The films begins with a beautiful isolated scenery, it begins with pictures and videos of the nature yet no characters are shown. after this we have an enigma, the police man pushed a guy into the car and we have no idea why. they're both in the car driving to a place we have no clue to. the man is then at the police station where he is talking on the phone, at this stage the director introduces dramatic irony as we see the man who was cuffed walking up to the man yet the man can't. however there is more enigma as we don't know what he is going to do to the police man.

The guy who was cuffed was wearing dark colours like black which indicates that he is a bad character as black is usually associated with darkness and evil. however the police man was wearing light colours which could represent him being good. we then see the man killing the police man with his cuffs strangling him to death and leaving the police station. he drives his car in an isolated road where his car meets another. he comes out the car and then walks up to the man and once again we feel the suspense of the dramatic irony, as we know he is a psychotic killer yet the guy in the car doesn't, he used his oxygen tank to kill the man which was unexpected to us as we didn't expect him to be able to shoot the guy with the oxygen tank.

Camera
The opening of no country or old men begins with pans of the nature. then there was a  close up of  a man who was being cuffed and out into a police car. then there was a shot of both characters which created effect as they were contrasting from good and bad. then when we entered the police station the camera was angles at the man who was cuffed which could have been alerting us that he was going to do something wrong. then when the man was trying to kill the police man the camera was close up to the cuffs around the police mans neck and both of their faces showing their expressions. then the camera tracks the car going down an isolated road where he meets another guy eventually. the camera tracks the man walking up to the guy in the car. then there was a close up of the mans face as he was confused and when he was shot.

Sound
The film begins with a voice over which is non diegetic the person is talking about the crimes that have happened which contradicts with the beautiful scenery. however during the whole opening there was no music or not diegetic sound. all we could hear is what the characters can hear which shows a realistic effect to the film.
