Media theorists
thrillers which have it narrative structures are all made up from different theorists. these people made films better by adding their own theories creating the moods and atmospheres the films cause.
Levi Shauss. He created the addition of heroes and villains into thrillers to make it more interesting (Binary opposites). He said; narratives can be organised through binary opposites - two things apposed - often dominant verses subordinate. For example male/female or villain/ hero. An example to this is James Bond. Where James Bond is the hero and the villain is the man who is trying to take over the world.
Traditional Hollywood structure. this is how it is set up; 25% time Hollywood narrative set up. 50% time on confrontation and 25% of time is the climax. he also created the linear narrative structure. this is when everything is in chronological order. This involves few, if any sub- plots, tenancy towards the closure of the film. For example when the Villain gets killed.
Todorov. In 1969 Todorov produced a theory which he believed could to applied to any film. He believed that all films followed the same Narrative structure. The 5 stages consisted of;
1. a state of equilibrium. this is when all is how it should be.
2. a distruption of that order by an event. this is the problem they face.
3. a recognition that the disorder has occured.
4. an attempt to repair the dammage of the distruption.
5. A return of thr restoration which is the new equilibrium.
